In-line deflagration arresters are suitable for use with all pipework systems and pipe connections at container openings where explosions (deflagrations) of flammable gas/air or vapour/air mixtures may occur, which propagate at subsonic speed and do not produce a shock wave.
Deflagration arresters of types D and DF are designed to prevent a flame flashback during deflagrations of potentially explosive vapour/air or gas/air mixtures of explosion group IIA (maximum experimental safe gap greater than 0.9 mm) at a maximum operating pressure of 1.2 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 60 degrees C. The pipe section L on the unprotected side between the possible ignition source and the arrester must not be longer than 50 nominal pipe diameters (L< 50 x D). The nominal diameter of the connected pipework must not exceed the nominal connection diameter of the deflagration arrester. The arrester is bi-directional, its function is identical on both sides.
The arresters consist of a housing of made of spheroidal cast iron with an arrester package of two flame barriers. They are constructed in straight design.
Deflagration arresters are delivered along with a declaration of conformity and with operating and maintenance instructions.
Deflagration arresters made of spheroidal cast iron DF DN 15 to DN 80 are produced with sleeve connections (female thread) only (see dimension sheet).
This design is also available in an angle layout with a valve insert for DN 40 and DN 50.
