The Universal-Sicherungstechnik company was established in July 1978 to continue the production of the flame arrester product line according to Patent Universal II and of special fittings for the mineral oil industry which had until then been produced and distributed by the Ing. Hermann Gottwald company.
The flame arresters, which were from then on distributed by the Universal-Sicherungstechnik company, had been tested and approved in 1953/54. Since then they have been employed at numerous petrol stations and fuel depots in Austria and abroad.
After the acquisition of the product line of the Thonheizer company, the Universal -Sicherungstechnik product range was extended to include check valves and vent valves.
The enlargement of the European Union to 13 member countries, one of which was Austria, marked the beginning of a harmonisation process with regard to explosion protection regulations. In view of the creation of new standards, Universal-Sicherungstechnik started to develop flame arrester systems in accordance with the new European standard. The development of detonation arresters was completed in 1995 and these products were granted EU qualification approval the same year. In 2003, this was transformed into a type examination certificate. In 1999, the development of the deflagration arresters was completed and a type examination certificate was issued for these products.
In spring 2003, Universal-Sicherungstechnik was certified according to IS0 9001:2000 followed by a certification of the production process according to ATEX 100a by a notified body. Hence, Universal-Sicherungstechnik products comply with all requirements put to flame arrester systems.
